Details
Richard Brooks’ 1965 film adaptation of Joseph Conrad’s Lord Jim, starring Peter O’Toole, was one of the first major Western films shot in Cambodia.
Filming took place in 1964, using the temples and jungles around Angkor Wat in Siem Reap as locations.
The production was described as a difficult shoot due to environmental conditions, corruption, dangerous wildlife and political instability. The original 12-week schedule was cut to nine weeks, and Peter O’Toole was later banned from Cambodia by Prince Sihanouk.
The film also stars James Mason, Curt Jürgens, Eli Wallach, Jack Hawkins, Paul Lukas and Daliah Lavi.
